About Me

H A Vachhani was born in February, 1937, in Sind (current Pakistan). His parents moved to Jaipur, Rajasthan in December 1947 after being displaced from Sind (Undivided India). His father was given a job in Jabalpur. Concerned about his education, his parents sent him to Ajmer as there were 3 schools for displaced Sindhi community children.

He passed his High School examination from CBSE, Ajmer in 1952. He came to Jabalpur took admission in Robertson College to complete the Intermediate Science Examination of Saugor University. At that time there was only one University in entire CP and Berar. He secured third position in order of merit in the University.

Dr Vachhani completed his graduation from Government Engineering college and was awarded his degree in B. E. (Hons.) in Civil Engineering in 1958. Thereafter he was offered the position of Lecturer in Civil Engineering.

In 1959, he was selected by Government of India, as a Senior Teaching Fellow and was offered IAS scale grade with two advance increments, a rare feat even in that period. However, he completed his M.E. in Structural Engineering in 1962 from University of Roorkee. He accomplished grade “A” in all the six course work requirements and Thesis.

In 1964, Government of Canada offered 20 commonwealth scholarships for completing Ph.D work in Canada and the selections were made on the basis of all India merit. Selection was made by jointly by experts from Government of India and Canadian Government. Dr Vachhani was chosen for the same and asked to report to Dr. G G Meyerhof, HOD, Civil Engineering at Nova Scotia Technical College, Halifax, to pursue his Ph.D..
